Sworn Translation of Driving Licences and DVLA Documents for Spain

Official sworn translations of driving licences, DVLA documents and records relating to driving history or licence status, written in English or Spanish, for submission in Spain or abroad where appropriate.

Sergio Boix Mira is Spanish Sworn Translator of English No. 4473, appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He translates every document personally and provides a professional and confidential service.

Document translation, not driving licence advice

This page focuses on the accurate translation of driving-related documents. It is not a guide to licence exchange, penalty points, sanctions, renewals, driving requirements or licence validity. A sworn translation may be required if requested by the authority, but this depends on the document and procedure. Current requirements should always be checked with the competent body.

Driving licences and related documents

  • Driving licences and permits.
  • DVLA letters, certificates and correspondence.
  • Driver records, driving records and driving history documents.
  • Entitlement records and certificates of categories or entitlements.
  • Licence status documents.
  • Notices relating to licence validity, replacement or renewal.
  • Documents concerning endorsements, restrictions or disqualifications where relevant.
  • Certificates issued by driving authorities.
  • Spanish driving licences and related documents translated into English.
  • Equivalent documents issued by authorities in other countries.

DVLA documents

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is the UK authority responsible for maintaining driver and vehicle records. It may issue letters, certificates, extracts, entitlement records and other correspondence. It is not presented here as an exact equivalent of Spain’s DGT: each body has its own functions and requirements.

DVLA documents can be translated where the client or receiving authority needs them in Spanish. A translation does not replace checks with DVLA, DGT or another authority and does not guarantee the outcome of any procedure.

UK driving licences and documents for Spain

UK driving licences, DVLA letters, driver records, licence status documents, entitlement certificates and driving authority correspondence can be translated for use in Spain where appropriate. Not every foreign licence or DVLA document requires a sworn translation; the competent authority should confirm the requirement for the individual case.

Spanish licences and documents for use abroad

Spanish driving licences, driving-related certificates, documents issued by traffic authorities and administrative driver records can also be translated into English where relevant. For use outside Spain, requirements should be checked beforehand with the receiving authority.

Documents issued in other countries

Sergio translates documents written in English or Spanish regardless of the country of issue. In addition to the United Kingdom, documents may come from the United States, Ireland, Canada, Australia or other countries. The name and scope of each record depend on the issuing authority and are not automatically equated with a Spanish document.

Categories, entitlements, restrictions and dates

Vehicle categories, entitlements, endorsements, restrictions, codes, issue dates, validity dates and expiry dates are reproduced faithfully from the source. The service does not interpret administrative categories or codes or determine the rights they confer.

Driving records and driver history

Documents concerning driving history or a driver’s administrative record can be translated where appropriate. The terms driving record, driving history, driver record and licence record are not treated as automatically interchangeable: each description is translated in light of the document and its context.

Penalty points, endorsements and disqualifications

If a document mentions penalty points, endorsements, disqualifications or convictions, cautious terminology consistent with the source is used. This category is distinct from criminal record documentation. Where the document is actually a police or criminal record certificate, see the police certificates sworn translation service.

Sworn translation, apostille and legalisation

A sworn translation and an apostille or legalisation are separate matters. These documents do not always need an apostille. Requirements may depend on the document, country, authority and procedure, and should be checked for the individual case.

Quote from a PDF, scan or photograph

You can send a PDF, scan or clear photographs of every side and page for a quote. These formats allow the work to be assessed but may not always be sufficient for the final procedure. The receiving authority may require an original, certified copy or another formality.

Confidential and accurate handling

Personal documents are handled confidentially. The translation gives close attention to names, licence numbers, categories, dates, codes, stamps, observations and administrative references without adding interpretations not present in the source.

How it works

  1. Send the document. Provide a PDF, scan or clear photographs and state the country and intended use.
  2. Receive a quote and timescale. Price, turnaround and delivery method are confirmed before work begins.
  3. Sworn translation. The document is translated and checked with close attention to administrative terminology.
  4. Delivery. You receive the sworn translation in the agreed format and, where required, the paper original.

An urgent service may be available where length, legibility and current capacity allow.
