Sworn Translation of Court & Divorce Documents for Spain
I provide sworn translations into Spanish of court, divorce and judicial documents written in English, regardless of the country in which they were issued. Depending on the procedure, these documents may be submitted to authorities, courts, registries, lawyers, notaries or other organisations in Spain. The service is provided directly by Sergio Boix Mira, Spanish Sworn Translator-Interpreter of English No. 4473, appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I work online with clients in Spain and abroad.
I also translate Spanish court and divorce documents into English when required. Requirements depend on the authority, court, lawyer or institution receiving the translation. Send a clear copy and explain where it will be presented so I can review it and prepare a quote.

Court and divorce documents I translate
Depending on the document and the purpose for which it is needed, I can prepare a quote for sworn translations of:
- Court judgments, civil judgments and family court decisions
- Court orders, procedural orders and court certificates
- Divorce judgments, divorce decrees and divorce certificates
- Final Orders and Decree Absolute documents where applicable
- Consent Orders, Financial Remedy Orders and other financial orders
- Petitions, applications, claims, defences and summonses
- Affidavits, statutory declarations, witness statements and statements of truth
- Statements of case, court evidence, settlement agreements and court correspondence
- Orders relating to children and other official procedural documents
- Equivalent judicial documents written in English
This is an illustrative list, not a statement that every procedure requires these documents. Legal terms and document functions vary between jurisdictions. I translate the document in its context and do not treat foreign legal concepts as automatic equivalents of Spanish institutions.
Sworn translation of divorce documents for Spain
A file relating to divorce may contain a divorce judgment, Final Order, Decree Absolute document, divorce certificate, court order, settlement agreement or financial order. The documents required depend on the circumstances and the procedure. No single document can be assumed to be sufficient in every case to evidence a divorce in Spain, and Spanish authorities do not necessarily request the same material in every procedure.
Please check with the receiving registry, court, authority or lawyer which document and format are required. I translate the documents you provide; the sworn translation does not decide whether the file meets the requirements of a particular procedure.
Final Orders and Decree Absolute documents
Final Order is terminology currently used in certain divorce proceedings in England and Wales. Decree Absolute may appear in historical or earlier divorce documentation. Their meaning and role should be understood in the context of the relevant jurisdiction, the date and the case record. These terms are not presented here as automatic legal equivalents of a specific Spanish document or status.
Judgments and court orders
I translate civil judgments, family court orders, financial orders, property-related orders, orders concerning children, procedural orders and court-approved settlement orders. I take care with the court name, case reference, dates, parties, operative provisions, signatures, stamps and official wording, preserving distinctions that appear in the source.
A sworn translation provides an official translation of the document. It does not, by itself, establish recognition or enforcement of a foreign judgment in Spain.
Financial Remedy Orders
Financial Remedy Orders may address financial matters arising from divorce or separation, including property, maintenance, lump-sum payments, pensions or other financial arrangements. The terminology and legal effect depend on the jurisdiction and case. I translate the document as issued and do not treat “Financial Remedy Order” as an automatic equivalent of a particular Spanish legal institution or advise on its enforcement.
If the document uses the expression “clean break”, I retain and translate it in the context of the wording and jurisdiction. I do not assume that it has an identical Spanish legal counterpart.
Affidavits, sworn statements and witness statements
I can translate affidavits, statutory declarations, witness statements, sworn statements and statements of truth. Their names, formalities and functions differ between legal systems. An affidavit is not automatically the same as a Spanish declaration or other Spanish procedural document. The translation reflects what the source says, including any stated oath, declaration, certification or signature.
Family court documents
Family court files may include orders relating to children, parental responsibility documents, contact or residence-related orders, maintenance documents, financial arrangements and court-approved agreements. I translate the document without advising on custody, parental responsibility, recognition of a decision or the merits of a case. Please ask your lawyer or the receiving authority about the legal steps that apply.
UK court and divorce documents
I translate court and divorce documents issued in the United Kingdom, including documents from England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Examples may include Final Orders, Decree Absolute documents, Financial Remedy Orders, Consent Orders, court judgments, affidavits and witness statements. The UK has distinct legal jurisdictions; terminology and procedure vary between them, so I do not assume that a term or form used in one applies to another.
Irish court and legal documents
I can also translate Irish court and legal documents written in English, such as court orders, judgments, affidavits, family law documents and declarations concerning applicable law. Irish institutions and legal terminology are not treated as exact equivalents of Spanish institutions. The source jurisdiction and document context inform the translation.
US court and divorce documents
Documents may include divorce decrees, judgments, court orders, affidavits, motions, petitions, settlement agreements and certified court records. Terminology and document formats can vary between states and courts. I translate the particular record supplied and do not assume that every state uses the same document or procedure.
Court documents issued in other countries
I translate court and divorce documents written in English regardless of the country in which they were issued. They may come from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Philippines, India or another jurisdiction. These are examples rather than a closed list. The country, court and context help establish the terminology used in the source.
Spanish court and divorce documents translated into English
When required, I also translate Spanish judgments, divorce judgments, court orders, procedural orders, settlement documents, family court documents and court certificates into English. Requirements depend on the authority, court, lawyer or institution receiving the translation. A sworn translation issued in Spain does not guarantee acceptance in every country or procedure; please confirm any format or additional formalities with the recipient.
Translation, recognition and enforcement are different matters
A sworn translation provides an official translation of a document. It does not determine whether a foreign judgment is recognised in Spain, whether it is enforceable, whether an exequatur or another legal procedure is required, or whether certification, an apostille or legalisation is needed. Those questions depend on the case and applicable requirements. Please consult your lawyer, the court or the relevant authority.
Do court or divorce documents need an apostille?
There is no universal answer. Requirements may depend on the country of issue, document, procedure, receiving authority and applicable legal framework. Some procedures may require an apostille or legalisation; others may not. A sworn translation does not replace an apostille or legalisation when one is required. Check the requirements with the authority or professional receiving the document.
Digital court and divorce documents
For an initial review and quote, you can send a complete, legible PDF, scan or digital copy of all relevant pages. Whether a digital copy or printed copy is acceptable for final submission depends on the court, registry or authority. They may require an original, certified copy or a particular format.
Careful handling of legal terminology
Judicial documents require attention to court names, case numbers, dates, parties, legal terminology, operative provisions, stamps, signatures and certification wording. I translate the source carefully and in context; I do not claim to create a perfect legal equivalence or change the legal effect of the original.

Yes. Requirements and terminology can vary between states and courts, so please send the complete record and tell me where it will be presented.

Can you translate Spanish court documents into English?
Yes, when an English translation is required. Acceptance and any additional formalities depend on the authority, lawyer, court or institution receiving it.

No. Translation and recognition or enforcement are separate matters. Please ask your lawyer or the competent authority which legal procedure applies.

It depends on the country, document, procedure and receiving authority. An apostille or legalisation and a sworn translation serve different functions.
Can I send court documents as PDFs?
A complete, clear PDF or scan is suitable for an initial review and quote. The receiving authority may have separate requirements for the final submission.
How long does a court document translation take?
Timing depends on the number of pages, legibility, terminology and any formatting requirements. I will confirm the delivery time with the quote after reviewing the documents.
