Types of Powers of Attorney I translate

I translate Powers of Attorney and related authority documents written in English, including general Powers of Attorney; special or specific Powers of Attorney; Powers of Attorney for property transactions; inheritance and probate matters; company and commercial matters; banking procedures; and legal proceedings. I also work with notarial Powers of Attorney and equivalent authority documents written in English. These labels do not necessarily describe equivalent legal powers in every jurisdiction: the translation follows the document’s wording, scope and limitations.

Powers of Attorney for property transactions

A Power of Attorney may relate to the purchase or sale of property, a mortgage, representation before a notary, Land Registry matters, or associated tax and administrative procedures. Whether a Power of Attorney is needed, and what it must contain, depends on the transaction and the professionals or authorities involved.

Powers of Attorney for inheritance and probate matters

Some Powers of Attorney are used in inheritance or probate procedures, for dealings with notaries, banks, registries or legal representatives. Requirements vary with the estate, the document and the receiving institution. If the file includes other English documents, you can also see my English-language service information and ask me to review the documents together.

Powers of Attorney for company and commercial matters

Corporate and commercial documents may appoint someone to represent a company, complete a transaction, deal with a bank, sign contracts or act before a public authority. The translation preserves the names, powers, conditions and limits stated in the document; it does not determine the legal effect of the appointment.

Powers of Attorney for legal proceedings

A Power of Attorney or other authority document may be required for a court or legal procedure. A sworn translation into Spanish may be requested by the receiving court, lawyer or other authority. Terms such as attorney, solicitor, barrister, procurador and abogado refer to roles that can differ between legal systems; they should not be treated as automatic equivalents.

Powers of Attorney issued in other countries

The service covers Powers of Attorney written in English irrespective of their country of issue. Documents may come, for example, from the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, India, Nigeria, South Africa or another jurisdiction. These are examples, not a limit on the countries covered. The applicable formalities depend on the document, its origin, its purpose and the authority in Spain that will receive it.

Spanish Powers of Attorney translated into English

I can also translate Spanish notarial Powers of Attorney, deeds of power, notarial authorisations and related documents into English. Requirements depend on the authority, institution or professional receiving the translation. I cannot guarantee that a translation or document will be accepted by every authority abroad.

Does a Power of Attorney need an apostille?

That depends on the country of issue, the type of document, its purpose, the procedure and the receiving authority. An apostille or other legalisation authenticates the origin of a public signature or seal where the relevant rules apply; it does not certify the contents of the Power of Attorney. A sworn translation is a separate matter and does not replace an apostille. Check the requirements with the authority or professional handling your case before arranging formalities.

Does the document need to be notarised?

Notarisation and sworn translation are different processes. Whether a Power of Attorney must be notarised, authenticated or certified depends on its country of issue, purpose and receiving authority. Not every Power of Attorney needs the same formalities.

Digital documents and quote requests

For a quote, you can send a PDF, scan or clear digital copy of all pages, including schedules, stamps, signatures and any apostille already attached. A digital copy may be enough for me to assess the work, but the receiving authority decides whether it will accept a digital or printed document for the procedure.
