Sworn Translation of Bank & Financial Documents for Spain
I provide sworn translations into Spanish of bank statements, banking records and financial documents written in English, regardless of the country in which they were issued. These translations may be needed for official, legal, administrative, tax or financial procedures in Spain. The service is provided directly by Sergio Boix Mira, Spanish Sworn Translator-Interpreter of English No. 4473, appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I work online with clients throughout Spain and with clients abroad.
I also translate Spanish banking and financial documents into English when required. Requirements depend on the authority, institution or professional receiving the translation. Send a clear copy and tell me where it will be presented so I can review the documents and prepare a quote.

Banking and financial documents I translate
Depending on the document and your procedure, I can prepare a quote for sworn translations of:
- Bank statements, current account statements and savings account statements
- Bank certificates, account ownership confirmations and account balance certificates
- Proof of funds, proof of income and transaction histories
- Deposit, payment, transfer and pension payment records
- Investment account and portfolio statements, fund statements and brokerage records
- Savings certificates, interest statements and bond documentation
- Mortgage documents, loan statements and credit agreements
- Financial summaries, tax-related banking records and bank correspondence
- Official account confirmations and equivalent banking or financial documents written in English
This list is illustrative, not a list of requirements for every case. A bank statement, balance certificate, ownership certificate and investment statement describe different records. Foreign institutions and products do not automatically correspond to Spanish documents or legal categories; I translate the issuing institution’s name and terminology in context.
Sworn translation of bank statements for Spain
A bank statement may show the account holder, statement period, opening and closing balances, transactions, dates, payment references, charges, interest and currency. I translate the information shown in the original and take care with account numbers, dates, balances, interest rates, currencies and transaction descriptions. Amounts and currencies are not converted, and a translation does not replace the original statement.
Depending on the procedure, bank statements or related certificates may form part of residence or immigration applications, inheritance procedures, property transactions, tax procedures, court proceedings, notarial matters or evidence of funds or income. This does not mean every application requires a bank statement or a sworn translation. The receiving authority or professional decides what documents and format it will accept.
Proof of funds and proof of income documents
Documents used to evidence funds or income may include bank statements, balance certificates, pension payment records, salary-related documents, investment statements or savings records. The expressions “proof of funds” and “proof of income” can refer to different evidence depending on the purpose. I translate the document and wording supplied; I do not verify the source of funds, assess eligibility or provide financial advice. Ask the recipient which documents, period and translation format it requires.
UK banking and savings documents
UK-issued documents may come from HSBC, Lloyds, Barclays, Santander UK, NatWest, Nationwide, NS&I or another bank or financial institution. These are examples, not a closed list. Documents may relate to current or savings accounts, mortgages, loans, account balances, annual interest, or savings and investment products.
Where the document refers to an Individual Savings Account (ISA), I retain the product’s official name and distinguish the type described by the issuer. A cash ISA and a stocks and shares ISA are not the same kind of account. Annual Equivalent Rate (AER) is retained as AER in the English source terminology; the precise context is considered when translating the document into Spanish. GOV.UK describes the different types of ISA in its official overview. Premium Bonds and other NS&I products are identified by their official names rather than treated as ordinary bank deposits.
US banking and financial documents
I can also translate documents issued by Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, Merrill and other US banks, brokers and financial institutions. Examples include checking and savings account statements, certificates of deposit, investment or brokerage statements, retirement account records, mortgage documents, loan statements and evidence of funds.
Products and terminology vary between institutions and countries. A checking account, brokerage account, retirement account and savings product are not automatically equivalent to a Spanish product. I preserve the issuer’s terminology and translate each document according to its content. The US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau explains that checking account statements may be provided on paper or electronically; the receiving organisation can confirm which version it needs.
Banking documents issued in other countries
I translate banking and financial documents written in English regardless of the country in which they were issued. They may come from Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Philippines, India, an international bank or another jurisdiction. These are examples, not limits on the service. The issuing country and institution help establish the terminology and context for the translation.
Investment and savings documents
Investment and savings files may include investment account statements, portfolio summaries, fund statements, savings certificates, interest statements, bonds or retirement investment records. Brokerage and custody records can describe securities held through an intermediary and are distinct from a bank account statement. The US Securities and Exchange Commission provides general information about custody of investment assets; I translate the particular document as issued and do not offer investment recommendations or assess a product’s value.
Bank statements and pension income
Some procedures may request bank statements showing pension payments, pension payment records, annual pension summaries or other evidence of recurring income. A bank statement is not itself a pension award or social security decision. If your file also contains pension or benefit documents, see my page about pensions and social security translations.
Banking documents in inheritance procedures
An inheritance file may include account balance certificates, bank statements, records of savings or investments, and certificates of positions at a relevant date. Which documents are needed depends on the estate and the professionals or authorities handling it. For related translations, visit Inheritance & Probate.
Banking documents for property and notarial procedures
A property or notarial procedure may involve financial documents as supporting evidence, such as a balance certificate, mortgage statement, proof of funds or payment record. Requirements differ between transactions, notaries, banks and authorities. Confirm what the recipient needs before ordering a translation. I translate the documents provided and do not determine whether they satisfy a legal or financial requirement.
Spanish banking and financial documents translated into English
When required, I also translate Spanish bank statements, certificates of account ownership or balance, mortgage and loan documents, proof of funds, investment statements and other financial records into English. I retain the names of Spanish institutions and the distinctions made in the original rather than assigning an automatic equivalent from another country.
Requirements depend on the authority, institution or professional receiving the translation. A sworn translation issued in Spain does not guarantee acceptance in every country or procedure. Please confirm the required format and any additional formalities with the recipient.
Careful handling of figures, dates and financial data
Financial documents require careful attention to account numbers, dates, balances, interest rates, currencies and transaction descriptions. I translate the information in context and do not recalculate amounts, convert currencies or change the financial value shown in the source. Where abbreviations or transaction codes are unclear, I do not expand them by guesswork.
Digital bank statements and financial documents
For an initial review and quote, you can send a complete, legible PDF, scan or digital copy of the relevant pages. Bank documents may contain sensitive personal and financial information, so send only the material needed to assess your request. Whether a digital copy is acceptable for final submission depends on the receiving authority, which may require an original, certification or a particular format.
Do bank or financial documents need an apostille?
There is no single answer for every country, document, purpose and procedure. The receiving authority determines whether it requires an original, bank certification, notarisation, legalisation, an apostille or a sworn translation. These formalities serve different purposes; a sworn translation does not replace an apostille or certification when the procedure requires one. Check the requirements with the organisation receiving your documents.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a sworn translation of a bank statement for Spain?
A sworn translation may be required, depending on the procedure and the authority or professional receiving the document. Confirm the required documents and format with the recipient.
Can you translate UK bank statements into Spanish?
Yes. I can prepare a quote for UK bank statements and related documents. The translation reflects the issuing institution’s terminology and does not treat UK banking products as automatic equivalents of Spanish products.
Can you translate US bank statements into Spanish?
Yes. Send the complete statement and tell me where it will be presented. US account types and financial terms are translated according to the document and its context.
Can you translate bank statements issued outside the UK or US?
Yes. I translate relevant banking and financial documents written in English regardless of the country in which they were issued. The institution and jurisdiction help me assess terminology and prepare a quote.
Can you translate proof of funds into Spanish?
Yes. I can quote for documents presented as evidence of funds. The receiving organisation decides what evidence it accepts; translation does not certify the origin or availability of funds.
Can you translate a bank certificate into Spanish?
Yes. I can translate certificates of account ownership, balance, positions or other confirmations. These documents have different purposes, so I retain the type and scope stated by the issuing institution.
Can you translate ISA or savings account documents?
Yes. I can quote for ISA and savings account documents. I retain official product names and translate them in context rather than assuming they are identical to a Spanish product.
Can you translate investment statements?
Yes. I can translate investment, portfolio and brokerage statements. The translation follows the document’s terminology and does not provide investment advice or a valuation.
Can you translate Spanish bank statements into English?
Yes, when an English translation is required. Acceptance and any additional formalities depend on the authority, institution or professional receiving it, so please check their requirements first.
Do bank statements need an apostille?
Not always. It depends on the country, document, purpose, procedure and receiving authority. An apostille and a sworn translation serve different functions; confirm the formalities with the recipient.
Can I send bank statements as PDFs?
A complete, clear PDF or scan is suitable for an initial review and quote. The receiving authority may have separate rules for originals, certification or final submission.
How long does a bank statement translation take?
Timing depends on the number of pages, legibility, terminology and any formatting requirements. I will confirm the delivery time with the quote after reviewing the documents.
