Sworn Translation of Academic & Education Documents for Spain

I provide sworn translations into Spanish of academic, educational and qualification documents written in English, regardless of the country in which they were issued. These documents may be required by universities, schools, public authorities, employers or other institutions for admission, recognition, employment, credential evaluation or administrative procedures, depending on the case. The service is provided directly by Sergio Boix Mira, Spanish Sworn Translator-Interpreter of English No. 4473, appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I work online with clients in Spain and abroad.

I also translate Spanish academic and education documents into English when required. Requirements depend on the institution or authority receiving the translation. Send a clear copy and tell me where it will be presented so I can review it and prepare a quote.

Academic and education documents I translate

I can prepare a quote for sworn translations of academic, educational and qualification documents, including:

This is an illustrative list. The name and function of a qualification can vary between institutions and education systems.

Sworn translation of degrees and diplomas for Spain

Degrees, diplomas and qualification certificates may be used for university applications, employment, professional or academic recognition, credential evaluation, visa or residence-related procedures, or other administrative matters. The receiving institution determines which documents and formalities are required. A sworn translation provides an official translation; it does not itself homologate a degree, recognise a qualification or establish academic equivalence.

Academic transcripts and grade records

Transcripts and grade records may list subjects, modules, credits, grades, marks, academic years, degree classifications or GPA where applicable. I take care with institution names, course titles, dates, grades, credits and academic terminology. I do not automatically convert or recalculate grades or credits, or assume that grading systems are equivalent.

University documents

University documents may include degree certificates, transcripts, enrolment letters, graduation certificates, attendance letters, academic records and postgraduate certificates. I work with documents from institutions in different countries and do not limit the service to a particular national system.

School and secondary education documents

I translate school reports, school certificates, secondary education certificates, grade reports, letters from schools and other academic records. I do not automatically equate a foreign school qualification with ESO, Bachillerato or another Spanish qualification.

Vocational and professional qualifications

Vocational training certificates, professional qualifications, course certificates and technical qualifications can be translated in their documentary context. A foreign qualification is not automatically presented as equivalent to Spanish Formación Profesional or to a regulated professional qualification.

English language certificates

I can translate Cambridge English certificates, Trinity College London certificates, APTIS certificates and other language certificates. Not every certificate requires a sworn translation: the need depends on the university, employer, authority or other organisation receiving it and on the procedure involved.

UK academic and education documents

Examples include GCSE and A level records, BTEC qualifications, university degrees, degree certificates, academic transcripts and professional qualifications. Terminology varies between institutions and qualification systems. These examples do not imply automatic equivalence with Spanish qualifications.

US academic and education documents

Examples include high school diplomas, college transcripts, university degrees, academic records, grade reports and professional certificates. GPA, credits and degree titles are not automatically equated with Spanish grading or qualification systems.

Academic documents issued in other countries

I translate academic and education documents written in English regardless of the country in which they were issued. Documents may come from Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Philippines, India, international schools or universities, and other jurisdictions. These are examples, not a closed list.

Spanish academic documents translated into English

When required, I also translate Spanish university degrees, academic transcripts, school certificates, Bachillerato certificates, vocational training certificates, university records and training certificates into English. Requirements depend on the university, employer, authority or institution receiving the translation. I cannot promise universal acceptance outside Spain.

Translation and academic recognition are different processes

A sworn translation provides an official translation of the document. It does not by itself recognise a foreign qualification, homologate a degree, establish academic equivalence, determine professional recognition or guarantee admission to a university. Check the applicable requirements with the university, education authority, professional body, employer or competent administration. My service concerns translation, not academic or legal advice.

Careful handling of qualification titles

Names such as Bachelor, Master, Diploma, Certificate, BTEC, GCSE and A level are translated accurately in context. I do not automatically turn them into exact Spanish equivalents or change the qualification stated in the source.

Grades, credits and academic systems

Education systems may use different grading scales, credit systems, degree classifications, GPA, ECTS or other credit structures. I preserve the information shown in the document and do not convert grades or credits unless expressly requested and methodologically appropriate.

Digital academic documents

For an initial review and quote, you can send a complete, legible PDF, scan or digital copy of all relevant pages. Whether a digital or printed copy is accepted for final submission depends on the receiving university, authority or institution, which may require an original or a particular format.

Do academic documents need an apostille?

There is no universal answer. Requirements may depend on the country of issue, document, purpose, receiving authority and procedure. A sworn translation does not replace an apostille or legalisation when one is required. Please check with the organisation receiving the document.

How it works

  1. Send your documents. Send a clear PDF or scan of all relevant pages and explain where they will be presented.
  2. Receive your quote. I review the documents and confirm the price, delivery time and required format.
  3. Receive your sworn translation. I deliver the completed translation in the agreed format.
